Dr. Milcah Abasabyona is an early-career interdisciplinary researcher with more than 12 years of hands-on research experience. Her work draws on anthropology, the humanities, and the social sciences, with a particular focus on young people and women across diverse settings. She has conducted research grounded in ethnographic methods in urban peripheries and remote, hard-to-reach communities. Dr. Abasabyona holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Development Studies from Makerere University, a master’s degree in Anthropology of Education and Globalization from Aarhus University- Denmark, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Gulu University. Her experience includes multidisciplinary and collaborative research with leading organizations and initiatives, including the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE), Next Generation Social Sciences Research Council (Next Gen SSRC) fellowships, and the cross-country Certifications of Citizenship in Africa (CERTIZENS) project, involving Makerere University, the University of Copenhagen, and the University of Ghana. Her research examines the transnational flows of people, things, and ideas, with particular interests in sustainable development, legal identification, citizenship and belonging, urban marginality, and peacebuilding.
